Accessibility statement

We help public bodies make their websites accessible, so ours should be an example. This statement explains what we aim for, how we test and how to tell us about a problem.

Our goal

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. That also covers WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard in the DOJ ADA Title II rule.

What’s built in

  • A “Skip to main content” link, one main heading per page with a logical heading order, and labeled landmarks
  • Everything works with a keyboard alone, with a high-contrast focus outline that is never hidden behind other content
  • Text contrast of at least 4.5:1 and non-text contrast of at least 3:1, checked for every text and background pair, including areas with gradients
  • Pages reflow down to 320 CSS pixels wide without horizontal scrolling and work at 400% zoom
  • Buttons, links and form controls at least 44 by 44 pixels, larger than the WCAG 2.2 minimum of 24 by 24
  • Form fields with visible labels, instructions, an error summary and inline error messages that don’t rely on color alone
  • Motion limited to short one-time effects, all switched off when your device asks for reduced motion
  • No autoplaying media, no puzzle CAPTCHAs, no overlay widgets, no cookies and no tracking
  • Help and contact links in the same place on every page; real data tables with headers and captions
  • Site fonts are served from this site and fall back to your system fonts

Automated tools find only some accessibility problems, which is why we also test by hand. We update this log each time the site changes.
